A few weeks ago, Dave had the honor of befriending J, a man in hospice dying of cancer. He is the brother of one of our co-workers, Denise, working with us at Oak Hill apartments in Willoughby. J was a great guy, but historically had been resistant to the gospel of Christ. Although Dave had been warned that this man might be difficult to speak to because J did not know him, the Lord Jesus did a wonderful miracle. When Dave arrived at his room, there was already a visitor there. The fellow there was not only a lifelong friend of J’s, but also had known Dave from the basketball scene when they were young. Sharing old basketball stories opened J’s heart to receive Dave as a friend. 30 minutes later, the Lord Jesus gave J true repentance and assurance of faith for his salvation in Christ. It was a beautiful thing to see J initiate reaching out to Dave (a complete stranger 30 minutes ago) to hold hands while Dave prayed with J. Even more, when Dave asked J to express his heart in prayer to the Lord Jesus, J immediately grabbed Dave’s hands in fellowship while breathing out an amazing prayer of love for God. J’s prayer was filled with thankfulness for finding courage and peace for his journey home!
Even more, J had several dozen visitors who came from all over the country to visit him during his final weeks. The Lord Jesus’s presence was constantly in the room, and J even had several dreams about seeing Jesus face to face. Amazingly, this man who was formerly distant from spiritual things, openly testified to all who would listen, about seeing Christ, and his eager heart to soon see “the face of His Savior!” J went home to Christ on October 9th, filled with peace, while in the presence of his brother.
Last week, the Lord Jesus moved two women from Greenbrier Apartments in Euclid to attend the K weekend retreat. They were blessed beyond words by the Lord’s presence and the love which the family of God poured out on them.
